It’s the final day of fashion week in NYC. As a social media editor in fashion and beauty PR, I had the cool experience to pretend to be a fashion insider for a week, live blog some shows, people watch, visit designer showrooms and write the Backstage Beauty posts for the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week site. And it was this floral frock above that found me on Essence.com’s Street Style that I got for $6 at an Atlanta thrift store. Great reminder that style is all about how you wear it and not what you spend.

Yesterday, Michael Kors made me feel like I’m not a total grandma as I watched his safari-themed collection in my animal print skirt. I ended the night at Glam.com’s blogger dinner at Barneys. It was great to see some of my favorite fashionable friends and meet new ones.

I sat next to Catherine of Red Carpet Fashion Awards, named one of the top bloggers of 2011 by Time.com. Being the lover of love that I am, of course relationships found it’s way in many conversations. Catherine lives in London and shared how the second she went from secretary to known blogger her love life took a hit and guys were not as excited for her success. I also asked if she watched the royal wedding. She let me know it was her birthday and she wasn’t trying to be upstaged. But like many of us, once her eyes saw Kate she watched the rest.

The best fashion week moments for me weren’t the gag-worthy runway styles but the people. From watching Bill Cunningham adjust his camera in Lincoln Center and DVF pass out flags after her show on 9/11, to snapping this pic with my big sis Corynne backstage at Tracy Reese, fashion week was a lesson on continuing to chase your own dream – and not just wearing someone else’s.
